Göteborg på 70-talet.
In the mid seventies I took a lot of photographs of Gothenburg. It's changed a lot since then, so I'm glad I did. I'll start with a couple of pictures of the river. I'll put some more up as time and space permits. The top one shows the ferry which crosses
the Göta river just a little upstream from Älvborgsbron.
Underneath that is an old volvo parked on Gullbergskajen

Here's a couple more winter shots. We haven't seen so many winters like this, recently.
The top one shows a number 4 tram about to turn left off Södra Hamngatan to go along Västra Hamngatan. In the background is Fiskekrögen, a celebrated seafood restaurant. Stora Hamnkanalen on the right, is frozen over. Under that is a picture of Kristinekyrkan and
Rådhuset.

These two were taken in October '77. At top is the old Lindholmen floating dock. I think that's gone now. I particularly liked this part of the river. Below that is the entrance to Haga Nygata. Somewhere, leading off from this
street is the location for my
Summer Rainstorm in Haga painting.

I didn't take so many pictures of the city in the summer. Generally, I spent the sunny days by the lakes, or exploring the coastline. But here's a couple. The picture at the top is of Majnabbekajen. Cranes were a big part of the scene in the 70s. They've all been dismantled since then. Underneath that is a view from Masthuggskajen, looking across the river at the big ships in the floating docks.

I've just come back from a visit to Gothenburg. The waterfront has changed much more than I realised. The next few pictures will be of the river. They are anyway my favourites. At the top is a a view along Skeppsbronkajen. The leaning buildings have gone...along with just about everything else you can see. Underneath you can see a couple soviet ships that have put in for some repairs. The skyline here is very much changed.

The tall-ship Viking is still around, but its mooring has been completely re-arranged since this picture was taken. The picture underneath is is looking upstream along Gullbergstrandgatan. All the old wooden buildings that were here have replaced by an extensive office development.

Here's another picture of the soviet ships. Behind them you can see the area of old wooden workshops and storehouses that were on the site of what are now the 'Lipstick'and the Opera House. Below it is a view of Göta Älvbron from the north bank. The two prominent landmarks on the south bank are now accompanied by a lot of other buildings. This bridge is the subject of my Evening Tram painting.
